Kyle & Kayla – Fishing Lodge Wedding – Montana Wedding Photographers

Posted by in Wedding Photography

Kyle & Kayla are a couple that we’ve known for years and years, and I can’t even tell you what an honor it is to be asked by amazing people to capture the amazingly important moments in their lives.

{{{{{{{alllllllll the goosebumps guys, allllll the goosebumps!!!}}}}}

From the very beginning these guys said that they wanted a relaxed, intimate celebration for their wedding—one that had a “backyard BBQ party” feel. They wanted to spend their time connecting with their guests and enjoying their day, not stressing or having things being too scheduled.

That vision came to life and THEN some in this gorgeous celebration!

They searched high and low for the perfect venue and the final winner, The Flatwater Lodge on the Missouri river, was STUNNING and oh-so-perfect for this couple. It wouldn’t work for a large (or super formal) wedding, but for a smaller, informal wedding it was ab-so-lute-ly perfect! Scott and I were also super impressed by all of the details that had been lovingly handcrafted by Kyle & Kayla’s families: a handmade cookie tree, popcorn cart, wooden lanterns, hand-painted signs. Everywhere you looked there was another personal detail! I also loved the many nods to Kyle [obsession;)] and Kayla’s [love] of hunting, from the antlers and sheds decorating the ceremony location, to the antler broach Kayla gave to Kyle on the wedding morning to wear in place of a boutonniere.

All in all this was a day so filled with love and laughter that I found myself smiling all the way home—that much happiness just filled my heart right up to the very tippy top.

Kyle & Kayla – thank you for sharing your special day with us. We couldn’t be happier for the two of you and we loved every moment we got to spend with you!!

Will & Kristina – the Round Barn Wedding – Twin Bridges, MT Wedding Photography

Posted by in Wedding Photography

We were SO excited to travel to the Ruby Valley for Will & Kristina’s wedding. I’ve known Kristina for many years now and she and Scott have known each other since childhood, so we were super happy for her and her new marriage. Will & Kristina have also known each other since childhood, but it was only after many years and many adventures that they both ended back up in the Ruby Valley and fell in love (awww!).

Will & Kristina’s wedding day was filled with so many lovingly hand-crafted details, from the jars of homemade relish and jelly for each guest, to the {ahhhmazing!!} cheesecakes made by Carolyn, Will’s mom in place of a traditional wedding cake (have you ever heard of a margarita cheesecake? how about carrot cheesecake? YUM!).

Their day was also filled with people who had traveled far and wide to celebrate this marriage with Will and Kristina. It was really touching to see all of that love gathered together.

The location was a brand new one for us (and I was soooo excited to finally see the inside after driving by it for nearly 15 years on our trips to see Scott’s parents in Sheridan, MT and just being fascinated by it’s unique design).  The Round Barn was built in 1882 (you can read more about it’s history HERE) but it’s just in the past couple of years that it has undergone a complete restoration to become an event center and wedding venue. It. Is. Stunning. !!!

All and all it was a beautiful day filled with love and laughter and we had so much fun capturing all of these memories.

Will & Kristina – thank you for asking us to be part of your special day! We can’t wait to share these pictures with you!

Zach & Ashlee – Winter Civic Center Wedding – Helena, MT Wedding Photographers

Posted by in Wedding Photography

I first met Zach & Ashley when we got to do their awesome outdoor engagement session here in Helena (see those pics HERE), but Scott and Zach have known each other for years and years (allllll the way back to when Zach was one of Scott’s track athletes:).  So to be asked to capture Zach & Ashlee’s special day was especially awesome!

These two planned a beautiful winter wedding at the iconic Helena Civic Center.  They held both their ceremony and reception at the Civic Center (since ooooobviously February in Montana = COLD;) but we also lucked out with a sunny, above zero day so we were also able to get some outdoor pictures – woot!  We spent our time outside in the Great Northern Town Center area since Ashley was getting ready with all of her girls at the Great Northern Hotel (which, super shout out to the desk staff at the hotel:  Ashley had a room with french doors leading out to the pool area which was cool, but it meant there was zero natural light…not exactly the greatest for pictures.  When I asked the front desk if there was an empty room we could use for about an hour they COMPLETELY hooked us up!  Soooo super nice of them!).

Several hundred people came to celebrate the big day with Zach & Ashlee and from all of the laughter and hugs in the room you could tell that everyone was so happy to be celebrating with this couple.

Zach & Ashlee – thank you for asking us to be a part of your wedding day!  It was an honor to capture all of these memories for you.  We have TONS more to share, but in the meantime enjoy this sneak peek!:)

{confession:  I’m in.love. with these custom wood ring boxes!}

Jared & Elizabeth – Elegant New Year’s Eve Wedding – Big Fork & Kalispell Wedding Photographers

Posted by in Wedding Photography

I am lucky to know Jared & Elizabeth not only through a year and half of wedding dreaming and planning, but also on a much more personal level.  Jared took over my classroom when our twins were born in the spring of 2015 and he did an AMAZING job with my students (and he did super thoughtful things like leaving a “Welcome Back” balloon for me when I came back to school to teach for a couple days – I mean, seriously?! – so amazing!).  He was then hired to teach biology in the classroom right next door to me, so now we are teaching partners (he’s also my life saver when I’ve had to take a couple emergency sick days over these past two years!).  Needless to say I was SO excited when they picked us for their wedding photographers. !!  And as Elizabeth and I talked and texted and worked on details – and after their ahhhhhhmazing “haute couture” Engagement Session – which you can check out HERE) – I just got more and more ridiculously excited for this wedding.

These guys picked New Year’s Eve because they wanted to throw an elegant black-tie bash.  And it was definitely elegant.  And definitely a bash!  But what I love love LOVED most about their wedding was that after allllllll of that planning, Jared & Elizabeth showed up on their wedding day and they fully immersed themselves in the moment.  There was no stressing.  No angst.  No worrying about the details.

There was just love.

Love and relationships and laughter.

I have goosebumps right now just thinking about it…!

Because it’s those days that we love to capture.

And I’m not ashamed to admit that as Jared & Elizabeth exchanged vows on that cold cold New Year’s Eve night, I had tears in my eyes.  Happy happy tears for this awesome awesome couple.

And the pictures.

Well.

Those.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy!

Then there was this one time that the bouquet got stuck in the balloon drop…. So a quick rescue lift was organized.

And no one died.

And then there was this OTHER time that the garter toss involved a football.  And Scott captured every moment behind the group of jostling guys, right up until he caught the football….

With his camera.

No one can say we don’t go all-in for the shot! Ahahaaaa!!

{{{and thankfully our cameras are tough, so no camera died capturing this moment – #doublewinning}}}

Jared & Elizabeth had given us a heads-up that there would be a balloon drop at midnight.  So we set up a long exposure shot with a little off-camera flash to capture this magical moment for our New Year’s Eve couple.

[gaaaaaa I LOVE this image!!!!!]

My other favorite shot of the day was the happy couple in front of the church.

Cause our couples are cool enough to trust us when we say “Soooo…do you guys wanna go out in the sub-zero weather for some church shots? We think they will turn out ahhhhhmazing!!!!”

And – they did.

Yaaaaaasssss!!!!

Jeff & Jennifer – Intimate Reeder’s Alley Wedding – Helena, MT Wedding Photographers

Posted by in Wedding Photography

One of my most FAVORITE places in Helena, MT has always been Reeder’s Alley. It’s an incredible piece of Helena history that’s been preserved almost entirely intact since Helena’s infancy during the gold boom. So you can imagine my delight when Jennifer and Jeff shared that they were planning to have their wedding there! To be honest, I didn’t even know that was an option—but it turns out that it’s an absolutely perfect place if you want to have a small, intimate wedding in a gorgeous historical location.

Jeff and Jennifer planned for their wedding weekend to be a time of celebration and connection for their families, many of whom traveled great distances to attend the wedding. From the full day we got to witness I would say that goal was a complete success!

There were so many personal touches at this wedding: Jennifer’s stunning dress which had been personally altered by her mom, the table runners, table cloths, and napkins all of which had been sewed by Jenn and her mom, and the ceremony which was officiated by Jeff’s brother. They also picked out details that were perfect for the intimate vibe: the musician Brett Mondie (who’s seriously talented ya’ll, we were super impressed!), the delicious salmon and chicken dinners (not to mention the fab hor d’oeuvres) created by Benny’s Bistro, the amazing cake made by Holly Wiest of Cotton Top Pastries, and the flowers arranged by Knox Flowers.

In the end, even the finicky fall Montana weather cooperated. !!!  And one really can’t ask for much more than that;)

Enjoy this little peek into Jeff and Jennifer’s wedding!
