Sam & Stephanie – Spring Engagement Pictures – Helena MT Wedding Photographer

Posted by on May 30, 2013 in Engagement Pictures

I can only feel like the luckiest of girls due to the fact that BOTH of my engagement sessions from last week managed to squeak by with no more than a drop or two of rain.  This was especially important for Sam and Stephanie since they were only in Helena for a couple of days before returning to their medical residencies – which are on opposite sides of the country!

BTW:

Outdoor engagement session + no option for rescheduling + crazy unusual amounts of rain lately = fingers, toes, & eyeballs crossed for decent weather [aka a *slightly* stressed photog]

Successfully navigating the crazy Montana weather for an oh-my-gosh-can-this-be-real?-it’s-soooooo-gorgeous-right-now! session = WOOT [/whewwwww]

Honestly, it was like we dialed up the sunshine, the big puffy clouds, the glowing green leaves, the sweet chirping birds, the baby grass, the wildflowers.  It was rough, ROUGH I tell ya!;)

During our session we figured out that Stephanie and I have been practically steps away from each other throughout our high school years in Helena & early college years in Portland (but had never met until now), that Sam probably knows my old roommate Lisa from the WAMI med school program, that if Claire were sick Sam would be the expert (since he’s a soon-to-be pediatrician) but that if I were to fall down/off/over something at their wedding (like I have, ahem, been known to do on occasion) and seriously injure myself (which I’ve never done before ***knock on all the wood in a 10 ft radius***) Stephanie could step right in and fix me up (since she’s a soon-to-be emergency room Doc), and that I have the complete green light to shout “REAL SMILES” at either/both of them throughout their wedding day.

Good stuff;)

Add to that some gorgeous light and two people who are very ready to spend the rest of their lives together – and, well, you can’t help but get a ridiculous amount of great pics….

[Rough, ROUGH I tell ya!:)]

Reg & Tia – Spring Engagement Pictures – Helena MT Wedding Photography

Posted by on May 28, 2013 in Engagement Pictures

We have certainly had our fair share of spring rain in Helena lately.  Which is WONDERFUL news for our farmers and our green grass and our chances of not having the forests closed in August this year!  It is not, however, super wonderful news if you have an outdoor photo shoot planned….  So when I called Tia last week, a mere twenty five minutes before her engagement session was scheduled to start, with the pouring down rain pounding on the hood of my car I was expecting to get a super bummed “oh man what are we going to do?!” comment.  Instead I got a “let’s just go for it!!” comment.  [at which point I had to pick my jaw up off the floor…seriously, I have the coolest brides ever!:)]  And low and behold, the rain. went. away.  For the WHOLE session!  Ahhhhhmazing.  [Insert Photog Happy Dance Dere]

So instead of frantically trying to re-schedule our session (with our three impossibly busy schedules), or slogging around with wet feet and frizzy hair, we got to enjoy the sun peeking out between the clouds and that oh-so wonderful wet earth smell of spring in Montana.  Simply fab-u-lous!

But I really loved pretty much everything about this session.  I loved that Tia has a family connection with the Little Red School House so we got to start our session there.  I loved that Tia’s dad stopped by the shoot to bring Tia’s pup for a quick picture (and I loved that he offered us all a beer – I mean, how awesome is that?!).  I loved their cowboy boots & Reg’s cowboy hat.  I loved that Korpi Nursery & Design Center let us wander around for a little while and take pictures in their gorgeous tree groves (I was absolutely swooning that all the trees were in bloom – ack!!).  I loved Reg’s irreverent sense of humor and Tia’s laid back laughter.  Like I told Reg & Tia:  clearly we are going to have absolutely ***no*** fun at their wedding this summer:)

Which is obviously a complete and utter lie.

We are going to have a blast:)

Mr. M [with Miss B] – Toddler Pictures – Helena MT Photography

Posted by on May 16, 2013 in Family Portraits, Kiddo Portraits

I have been taking pictures of Mr. M ever since he was a teeny tiny baby…oh! how time does fly!   And as he’s grown I’ve had the chance to take pictures of him with aunties and uncles and cousins and grandmas.  Now sweet sister B has joined the big wide world (congrats congrats S Family!) and Mr. M is just days away from turning three!  So it seems very fitting that we had his last Toddler Years photo session to celebrate:)

Mr. M started out a *leetle* bit unsure of the whole getting-his-pictures-taken-thing.  But when you’re only three and your world has been turned topsy-turvy by a strange-fragile-crying bundle of blankets, I imagine it’s especially difficult to come to place you don’t remember and stare at a big black camera that also seems quite unfamiliar (I would be a little freaked out too Mister!).  But after some yummy snacks and a little time to relax Mr. M was ready to turn on the charm!

Sitting still [while grinning handsomely] for a family photo?  Truly, it doesn’t get any more charming than that.

Yes, this little man has charming down to a fine art.  He also has a fabulous sense of humor.  Perhaps my favorite moment of the whole shoot was when he brought over his beloved blanket and put it over MY head so I could play hide & seek.  Oh Mister!  Thanks for including me – I do SO love to play!

Clearly M has perfected his playing techniques with Mommy & Papa.

Even though this was technically M’s shoot, I [of course] had to get a few pictures of the delectable Miss B as well.

Scrumptious, yes???

And while Mr. M may still be wondering *what* in the world Mommy & Papa brought home from the hospital…but he is already the sweetest big brother.

Oh.

Oh.

Ohhhh.  Be still my heart.

S Family – what an honor it has been these past three years to document all of these changes and kisses and surprised faces and sweet grins for your family.  Thank you!!  I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them!:)

Steven & Stefanie – Spring Engagement Pictures – Helena MT Wedding Photographer

Posted by on Apr 18, 2013 in Engagement Pictures

I met up with Steven and Stefanie to shoot their engagement pictures last week and the entire drive to our spot I was giving a big evil eye to the dark menacing clouds overhead.  When the first few raindrops started to splatter my windshield I literally said (yes I was in my car, by myself, and I said it out loud) “oh NO you don’t” and then I just continued to mentally repeat “no no no no no” all the way to the lake.  In hindsight I sound a wee bit crazy:)  BUT I will have you know that we (miraculously) did not get rained on at all – and later as I was driving home, I realized that pretty much everywhere else in the valley DID get rain, so apparently my rain-rain-go-away tantrum helped, lol.

Steven & Stefanie are a super fun couple (they’re getting married at Great Divide, need I say more?) who don’t take themselves too seriously – and I honestly think we spent the majority of our session laughing.  I absolutely LOVED that Stefanie could laugh so naturally (and adorably) while I was snapping pictures—I think it makes the pictures so playful and genuine.  We had a great time walking around the lake and off the beaten path in the mud and snow (with Stefanie in super cute wedge sandals and not a peep of a complaint the whole time!) – and the sun even came out for a little while – yeah!  We may have gotten a little dirty, I may have said “ok, now lean forward a little” a *few* times, a cute wool jacket may have been used as a blanket before later taking a dive into the mud, an aspen tree may have painted the back of Steven shirt white [temporarily], and there may even have been some “illegal” spoon moving, but it was all awesome:)  Seriously.

And now I can’t wait to share these pictures with you guys!

It was a fanTABulous day!  Thank you to all of my families for being the best-ever First Mini Session Peeps:)  Your images will be ready by the beginning of next week!!  Woot!:)

For the rest of you who are thinking huh…? Mini-what’s??

Well, up until now we’ve only had one type of session available at MLP:  Custom Portrait Sessions, but I’m soooooo excited to announce that we now have Mini Sessions available too!

So what’s the difference between a Mini Session and a Custom Session????  Here’s the scoop:

Mini MLP Sessions:

  • One outfit
  • 20-minutes
  • Babies &/or Kiddos only included in photos*
  • ALL Photographer-Selected images delivered digitally to you (typically ~20 images).  Print Permission included with Disc.

Mini Session Fee:  $299

Digital images (with print permission) ARE included with this fee.  Prints & products are also available.

*  Parents are not included in photos, Mini Sessions are for your children only:)  If you want all kinds of fun family photos check out our Custom MLP Sessions below!

Custom MLP Sessions:

  • Unlimited Outfits & Props
  • Unlimited Photo Session Time
  • Entire family included in photos (not just kiddos)
  • Post-Session Ordering Session included (we enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee while viewing your images and picking out the perfect products for your needs)

Custom MLP Session Sitting Fee:  $149**

** No digital images or products are included with this sitting fee.  Products start at $299.  Digital Images (with print permission) are available as an Add-On product.

In a nutshell, the biggest differences between a Mini MLP Session and a Custom MLP Session are

1)   Amount of Time (20 Minutes vs. Unlimited Time)

2)   Number of Outfits (One vs. Unlimited)

3)   Who is photographed (Kids Only vs. the Whole Family)

4)   What is included with the initial fee (Digital Images Included vs. Images & Products Purchased After Session).

I’m really excited about this new option!!  And I’m also excited to announce that [drum rollllllllllllllll]:

The next Mini MLP Sessions will be happening on Monday April 1st at the MLP Studio.

And booking is OPEN NOW!
