Still Here – Just Busy with TWINS!!!

Posted by in Life, Joy, Laughter

You may have noticed that things have been a bit…quiet here on the MLP Blog lately.

It’s true.

But it’s not because we haven’t been busy with photos (we’ve been busy – it’s been awesome!).

And it’s not because anything’s wrong (in fact, everything is wonderful!).

It’s for one very simple (and kind of crazy) reason that things have been quieter than normal:  and that’s because we adopted TWINS!

Yep, for reals:)

David & Jake were born in Nebraska in March and we arrived to the hospital exactly twelve hours after they were born (that’s the fastest you can physically get from Montana to Nebraska when you get a call that your birth mommy is going in for an unscheduled C-section! lol).  We’ve been busy snuggling and changing diapers and smooching soft cheeks and waking up at all hours of the night and falling more and more in love ever since:)

I did take a bit of a maternity leave in March & April but after that we hit the ground running with Mini Sessions and baby sessions – and we’ve already photographed two of our 2015 weddings as well!

I will be back Blogging – I promise!  It may just take me a ***leetle*** longer than normal:)

We are currently booking sessions for late summer and fall 2015 (it’s never too early to get your Senior Pictures or fall family pictures scheduled, those spots fill up pretty quick:) and we have ~3 spots left for 2016 weddings.  I would LOVE to chat if you are interested in having some fabulous photos taken of your littles or your family or your Senior or your wedding (or whatever else your heart may desire!).  You can reach me on my cell anytime (406-431-6452) or drop me an email (megan@meganlanephotography.com) if that’s easier!

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite photos from the boys’ newborn session – David is on the left, Jake is on the right – aren’t they just scrumptious!?!?! :) :) :)

Sending hugs to all of you from me, Scott, Claire, David, & Jake!

Baby C.G. – Newborn and Hospital Pictures – Helena, MT Baby Photography

Posted by in Baby Pictures, Life, Joy, Laughter

When I first posted my sister Erica’s maternity shoot I mentioned that at ***some point*** I would ***probably*** be sharing newborn pictures.  Well that [looooooong and eagerly awaited] time has finally arrived (eeeeekkkkk!!!) and I can’t wait to share these pictures with you guys!:)

I was one of the only people on earth to know my little sister was laboring, and I prayed and prayed and prayed for her and Mitch and Baby throughout that [holy cow is it ever going to end] long night.  The next day my mom and dad and Claire and I had the amazing honor of meeting Baby C when she just a few hours old.  Erica, who survived TWENTY hours of labor (with NO pain meds), delivered an 8 lb 14 oz baby [um, yeah, WOW] but she was literally glowing and already completely in love.  Mitch couldn’t stop grinning and I would often look over to catch him gazing down at his new daughter with this look of wonder on his face.  Those two are such an amazing team and it gives me goosebumps to know that they are now parents and that their little family of two is now three….

As for Miss C, well, this Auntie M is pretty sure she’s perfect.  From her fuzzy auburn hair and her identical-to-Erica’s-baby-pictures nose, to her L Family dimpled chin and her faaaaaabulously chubby cheekers, Miss C already has me wrapped oh-so-daintily ’round her tiny pinky.

What follows are a few pictures from the hospital—my favorite ones of the new family—and a few more pictures from her newborn shoot.

I know these images have been long awaited, so I hope you all love them as much as I loved taking them:)

At the Hospital

The Newborn Shoot

Such a bundle of kissable dimples and rolls!!!!!

I am oh-so enamored with the soft sweet fuzziness of newborn shoulders…

***swoon***

And, of course, peek-a-boo feet.

This sweet bunny was sent all the way from Maine from a Memere and Papi who love this grandbaby so very very very much.

[We were thinking of you guys so much during this shoot! sending you all big hugs & kisses from MT]

Grammie and Papa only live a few hours away so it’s a little easier to take pictures of their snuggles….

[I think Baby C is already telling Grammie little secrets:)]

“But all in all this baby-model business is HARD work!” she says with a biiiiiiiiiiiiig yawn.

“I think I’ll take a{nother} nap.”

Everything sweetness.

Everything love.

To my little sister, my best friend in the whole wide world, and her hubby Mitch, one of the greatest guys I know, thank you for letting me be a part of this experience and your joy.  You are going to be the most amazing parents!  C is soooooo so lucky to have you.  I love you more than words can ever ever say—and oh how I already love your sweet baby girl. xxxoo

Erica & Mitch – Studio Maternity Pictures – Helena, MT Baby Photographer

Posted by in Life, Joy, Laughter, Maternity Photography

My little sister.  My very best friend.

One of the people who knows me best in the whole wide world.

We are sisters who laugh at dumb things, talk for hours, dress up for no reason, and cuddle in the morning, cold toes tucked under a shared blanket while completely ignoring each other’s crazy bed-hair and mascara smudges.  We’ve gotten each other through our darkest seasons.  We’ve danced and squealed together in our times of joy.  We’ve biked to downtown Missoula [only once, and for the record I was afraid I was going to die].  We’ve drunk champagne on countless New Year’s Eves and “tasted” wine in southern France at 10:00 am.  She’s held me when I cried, and I’ve held her too.  We’ve dressed up identically for Halloween [only once, and for the record it completely freaked us out cause we really did look like twins].  We’ve had LOTS of adventures [Dixie Chicks and Zach Wild, hmmm?] and many more quiet nights in.

We are so very different; yet so very similar.

I love her more than words can express.

And she’s having a baby.  A baby girl!  I’ve felt her tummy move beneath my hand, those fluttering swirls and bumps making us both giggle.  I’ve watched her and Mitch anticipate this journey of parenthood.  I’ve prayed for her health and safety, and for the health and safety of this sweet baby girl.  Claire and I have shopped for [and awwww’d over] impossibly tiny onsies and incredibly soft sleepers.

And I got to take her maternity pictures over Christmas break.

There really aren’t words….

But I’m trying!  I really am.

Because I know that while I managed to pull it together for this post (and also their wedding post, whew)…I’m anticipating that words will truly fail me when this baby arrives (in late February or early March – eeeeek!) and after taking newborn photos I will sit before this same computer screen and try to organize my thoughts into something other than tears of joy.

Gulp.

So now I try to scoop this love – this so wide, so deep, so unconditional feeling – onto this page.  For my sister.  For our families.  For you, dear reader.  For Erica’s daughter, my niece, who will read this, someday.

And it’s a pale representation for sure.  But she knows.

My sister knows.

I love you Bug.  I love you so so so much.  And I’m so excited to be Auntie to this little girl.

I’m so incredibly happy for you and Mitchie.

xxxooooooo

And then a nice smiley face picture for the grandparents-t0-be!:)

Oh baby…!

OK.

And this is where I REALLY start to get teary-eyed….

Just.

Oh.

Serenity and joy.

Expectation.

Blessings.

Breathless waiting

Little sister of mine.

And then, this.

This is where I lose it.

Completely.

My sweet baby girl.  My sweet sister and her sweet baby-to-be.

Me:  Bawling.

[Thankfully not while taking the picture!  I actually managed to take these images without breaking down…it was only later while editing.  I got to this picture…and, well, just lost it.]

Whew.

And then, as if Mitchie knew I would need to be pulled back from the brink of ***Super Ugly Cry*** he gave me an out-take that, well, is pretty freakin fabulous.

heehee :)

Love love LOVE you guys so so SO much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

All Dressed Up – for a Saturday Morning Shopping Trip – Helena MT Toddler Photography

Posted by in Life, Joy, Laughter

Claire picked out this outfit last weekend for our Girls Day shopping trip with Grammie (she was SUPER excited about how “twirly” the skirt was – and every time she wears this jean jacket my brain about short-circuits in “ohmigosh-itsSOOOOOOOcute” overdrive:) – so I couldn’t resist getting a few couple quick shots before we left.

I know I’m biased and all – but seriously, this outfit is pretty dang cute, right?!:)

(looooove Children’s Place!!)

And then I asked her to tell me her favorite joke (while I snapped away)

Claire, “OK Mommy.  What’s a box of ducks called?”

Me, “Hmmm…I don’t know?  What is it called?”

Claire, “Moooooommmmmyyyy” (cause she’s only told me this joke 487 times – I think she’s catching on that I actually know the answer already;)

Me, “Oh shoot I can’t remember…can you tell me again?”

Claire, “A box of QUACKERS!”

[and even though we both know the punchline it makes us giggle every time]

Oh sweet girl.  I love you so much.

Our New Photography Studio! – Megan Lane Photography – Helena MT Studio Photography

Posted by in Life, Joy, Laughter, Specials, Announcements, Fun Stuff

I would like to welcome you all to the beautiful, new, oh-so-fabulous Megan Lane Photography Studio!

This studio space has been in the works for over two years, and the fact that my [incredible] hubby Scott built it entirely himself makes it even more special(!!).  We broke ground in May of 2011 and this November we were finally able to say “WE’RE DONE!!” (there were also quite a few “whoohoooo’s” and “YIPPEEEE’s” and booty-shakin’ happy dances, I’m not gonna lie:).  And we’ve been having awesome photo sessions there ever since!

Which means that I’ve been quite remiss in not posting pictures of the new space…yikes.  But better late than never, right?:)  So I’ve finally prepared a little virtual tour for you guys!

Here are our shooting areas.  The seamless white backdrop is super versatile and can work for one tiny baby, a couple energetic toddlers, maternity sessions, or family pictures.   The smaller backdrop system to the left is perfect for babies and toddlers.  The small backdrop can be switched out quickly (you can see some of the other backdrop options leaning in the corner) and I’ve got lengths of trim painted several fun colors so we can mix and match for all kinds of different looks!

We also designed this space so that it can accommodate a large group or extended family session.  When extended families get together and schedule a time for photos we often don’t have the luxury of re-scheduling due to weather – and we all know that nice weather in Montana is never a guarantee!  So we made the back wall (behind the backdrops) a completely blank wall – we didn’t even put outlets there – so we can use the entire wall as a backdrop.  Pretty sweet, huh?  Which means that I now have the perfect back-up location for those big family shoots!  Yippee:)

Here’s the space that’s devoted to hanging out!  After Photo Sessions, clients come back to the MLP Studio for their Ordering Session and we enjoy a glass of wine (or a beer) or a cup of tea (or coffee) while we view all of their pictures and plan the perfect wall display, album, or canvas grouping for their home.  This is also where I get to talk weddings with brides & grooms (and/or Mothers of the Bride/Groom) – such fun!

Bonus:  the big screen TV can double for entertainment during those sometimes loooooong newborn sessions;)

We started offering custom framing this fall – and it is SUCH a gorgeous finished product.  From contemporary to shabby chic, and from rustic to ornate, there are fabulous options for every house and every style.   (this is only ONE of the four drawers that are filled with all of the different frame & mat options – yeah, whoa!)

From this angle you can see the private Studio entrance (the door on the right) so you can come directly into the Studio from outside.  You can also see the opening that connects the Studio to the rest of our home.

From the beginning I knew that I had no desire to move the business out of our home, and we wanted the Studio to feel like an extension of our living space, so connecting it to the house like this was the perfect solution for us!   We also have plans to build a big barnwood door (which will be hung with external sliding hardware) so we can easily close off the Studio from the rest of the house when desired.  Plus the barnwood will make a really cool backdrop!

Here is a shot of the cozy client area.  We have a rocking chair for nursing &/or soothing babies, magazines for parents (everything from Vogue and Better Homes and Gardens, to Extreme Elk and Bowhunter Magazine – we are quite the eclectic household, lol), plus lots of specific solutions for baby-needs and storage.  More details about these in the next few pics:)

Here’s the hanging rod for all of the darling little outfits that clients bring with them for their babies and kiddos.  And then, because I’m super Type A, we can organize the outfits into the order we’re going to use them during the session!  Perfection:)

The entry table also doubles as a changing table (see the changing pad underneath?  We just put that on top and, voilà! change away!:).  The baskets underneath hold extra wipes and other baby necessities.

I guess I should just admit this now:  I’m pretty much addicted to buying little things that can be used during photo sessions….

Like headbands and bows and wraps and teeny tiny ties (you can’t see the ties because they’re in the left bucket – but they’re there:)…

And darling hand-made hats….

And tutus…

(ack – I’m a complete and utter sucker for tutus)

And we’ll end with a shot of my collection of tiny little chairs.

**Oh my goodness me, I do so luuuuuuve tiny little chairs…!**

(you can also see the oh-so essential Posey Pillow and Boppy in the background)

So there you have it!  The Megan Lane Photography Studio!

We’ve tried to think of every little detail to make your photo session as fun and relaxed and pampering as possible – AND to make sure your pictures are absolutely gorgeous!

The bottom line?  I can’t wait to have you over to play pictures:)

***Scott – thank you for making this dream a reality.  Your love & support mean everything to me – and your building skills are truly incredible! xxo ***

Be sure to connect with us on Facebook – we love new Likes:)  And please contact me if you’re interested in booking a photo session in our new studio!  (we also do LOTS of sessions outside when the weather gets nice – but those months tend to fill up very quickly, so don’t be afraid of calling to get your session booked several months in advance:)
