As the old saying goes, it’s good luck to have rain on your wedding day.
Soooooo, that must mean if there’s a torrential downpour on your wedding day you have a guaranteed happily-ever-after. Right??
I think that must be the case for Steven & Stefanie – because if you looked in the dictionary under “torrential-downpour-during-outdoor-wedding-ceremony” THIS would be featured wedding. I kid you not, this was some SERIOUS rain! Serious enough that one would not fault the bride at all for being a little sad/disappointed that her outdoor ceremony resulted in some pretty waterlogged friends and family and a everyone-QUICK!-dash-inside, now-we’ll-continue-under-cover mid-ceremony moment. But this bride was NOT the sort to let a pouring down rain ruin her wedding day. Oooooohhh hoooooo no! This bride was the type to laugh and kiss her honey and completely embrace the moment. And let me tell you, her joy was infectious! Her groom and family and friends were equally amazing – braving the rain, laughing through it all, and just generally making this an event we’ll all remember forever!:)
It started out as a beautiful fall day at the Great Divide ski lodge. When we arrived, the top of the mountain was still shrouded in fog, but before long that had burned off (we were even hot for a while!). We had an outdoor Reveal, we took gorgeous Bride & Groom pics (some of which we got to take from the very top of the mountain with the view of the mountains folding into the background and the valley laid out at our feet – in a word: wow). We took family pictures and wedding party pictures. But all the while dark clouds were rolling closer and closer. The wedding party pictures wrapped on sounds of thunder.
We all just hoped it would hold off for another hour.
Unfortunately the rain had other ideas.
It started as a sprinkle during the seating of the grandparents. By the time the wedding party was walking the aisle it was full-on rain. And by the time it was the bride’s turn to walk down the aisle it was raining hard. [at this point one can’t help but think, oh man I hope my camera body means it when it says it’s “weather sealed” **gulp**] By the time the call was made to move everything inside it seriously felt like someone was throwing BUCKETS of water down on the ceremony. It. Was. Craaaaaazy! [and at this point I would like to say a huge gigantic heart-felt thank you to the gentleman who crouched behind me in the aisle for the last few minutes of the ceremony and covered me with an umbrella – that was amazing and I will forever be thankful!!!]
Then we all ran inside (ran!) – and the ceremony continued. I must say it would be hard to find a ceremony with more laughter and love and random the-officiant-needs-a-beer moments. When the Bride & Groom were officially named Husband and Wife the crowd whooped and cheered and I don’t think there was a single serious (or dry) face in the bunch!:)
The fun continued that night with a mechanical bull, lots of dancing, a fabulous cake-smash courtesy of the bride & groom, and lots of goofy pictures in the photo booth (courtesy of the Six Shooter Photobooth).
At the end of it all, this was a day where a very-much-in-love couple promised to spend the rest of their lives together while being surrounded by friends and family. And if that day was blessed by a **little** rain, well, it certainly didn’t dampen [har har, I couldn’t resist;)] the fun for anyone!
